Declare antique furniture, artwork, marble or stone tops, glass cabinets and any very heavy or oversized single item when you book. Photos help DNS understand the piece and confirm the quote before the day.

If a single item is unusually heavy, or longer than three metres, tell us when you book. Declaring it is not the same as being charged for it, it just means the crew arrives with the right truck and equipment.

DNS moves grandfather clocks, and the weights, pendulum and movement need to come out first, which is a clock specialist’s job. Have that done before move day and the crew will wrap and carry the case with the same care as any other antique piece.

Antiques and valuable items: what insurance does and does not cover

There are two covers and they do different jobs. Goods in Transit is for the things being carried. Public Liability is for the property itself, the walls, floors and doorways. Both respond where DNS is found to be negligent. Antiques and other high-value fragile pieces sit outside any removalist’s transit cover, so it is worth arranging specialist or contents cover with your own insurer before the day. DNS does not sell or arrange that cover and does not recommend a particular insurer. If something is damaged in transit, let the office know in writing at contact@dnsremovals.com.au within 48 hours of your move finishing, and the team will take it from there. Tips for Preparing Your Antiques for Moving

Before your move, we recommend photographing each antique item to record its condition. Remove loose parts, such as keys, shelves, or mirrors, and store them securely. If possible, avoid polishing or cleaning your antiques just before the move, as some products can make finishes slippery or fragile under wrapping.

Let our team know about any existing damage or weak areas so we can reinforce them appropriately. The more we know about your collection, the better we can protect it during transport.

That way the right crew, truck and equipment turn up on the day. DNS does move upright pianos and pool tables with the heavy-item surcharge. Two limits worth knowing before you book rather than on the day: pianos are moved ground floor to ground floor only, with no stairs at either end, and grand pianos and pianolas are not moved at all.
